The Tehy members elected to the Council play an important role. The Council decides on matters such as the representation of the interests of Tehy members, approval of collective agreements, industrial action and union activity policies. It also elects the Tehy president.
You can run as a candidate even if you have no previous experience in representation of interests or similar duties. It is important that the Council comprises of a diverse group of Tehy members – be it from different professions and age groups or the public and the private sector all over Finland.
Candidates can be nominated from 4 February onwards
You can get sign up as a candidate in the Tehy Council election by filling in the candidate document, which will be made available in the Tehy e-services on Tuesday 4 February at 9:00. Sign in the to the e-services, open the menu (three bars in the upper right-hand corner) and select “Candidate Document”. Fill in the candidate document by Monday 24 February.
Each eligible member of a professional branch or student member may sign up as a candidate. You will be eligible to run if you have no unpaid member fees for the year 2024 and a Tehy professional branch or the Tehy student association has approved your membership by 31 January 2025.
You can also run as a candidate independently but, in practice, it is far more likely you will become elected if you run as a member of a Tehy council group. The contact details of council groups can be found on the Tehy election website. Your professional branch will also provide more information about running.
Tehy supports candidates

Tehy members cast their votes in March
The Council elections take place between 17 and 31 March 2025. All full and student members of Tehy are eligible to vote. The election will be held digitally with the entire country as a single electoral district.
