Were you let go or temporarily laid off? Do as follows

Becoming unemployed or being laid off is always a difficult situation. We compiled instructions on what to do if you become unemployed, are laid off or at risk of becoming unemployed as a result of cooperation negotiations, for example.

Being out of work may be a new and surprising situation for many people working in the social work, health care, early childhood education and rehabilitation sector.

Membership in an unemployment fund will secure your financial situation during your unemployment and lay-off. You are a member of the Unemployment Fund of Social and Healthcare Workers if you selected the fund membership at the time of joining Tehy or joined separately later on.

Read our instructions below on what to do in different situations.

Secure your livelihood

You need to be careful if you want to receive the earnings-related unemployment benefit. You are only eligible for earnings-related unemployment benefit if you have registered as an unemployed jobseeker. Read the instructions below on what to do if you lose your job.

You can read more in the Tehy magazine article Oletko jäämässä työttömäksi – toimi näin (in Finnish).

Temporary lay-offs and cooperation negotiations

Being laid-off temporarily means that the employer stops the employee’s work and suspends their pay temporarily, but the employment relationship remains active.

Many workplaces are currently undergoing cooperation negotiations in the public sector and change negotiations in the private sector. If cooperation negotiations or change negotiations concern you, read our guide on what to do in different situations.
