According to media information, the cooperation procedure will place 168 Eloisa employees, such as registered nurses and practical nurses, at risk of dismissal. Furthermore, there will be changes to 100 job positions through retirements and leaving positions unfilled. The plan is to reduce job positions in both services for the elderly and healthcare services.
– The dismissals, which will reportedly affect nurses above all, are appalling, says Tehy President Millariikka Rytkönen.
In Millariikka Rytkönen’s opinion, the fact that the dismissals will purely affect nurses is not only grotesque but also cold-blooded. The same nurses who were elevated as heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic and who risked their own health in order to care for others are now being pushed out the door for financial savings.
The personnel will be put in a very difficult situation in their personal lives due to this short-sighted decision by their employer.
– The Finnish social welfare and healthcare system is already floundering as is. These actions will only serve to lengthen patient queues, Rytkönen says.
Tehy agrees with Eloisa’s management on the fact that the wellbeing services counties’ financing model is neither fair nor functional.
– However, drawing savings from those who work in nursing is frightening. It raises the question of how this plan will affect the implementation of fundamental rights and patient safety, should it be realised, Rytkönen says.
– If the employer’s plan is carried out, Tehy will protect the interests of its members and find out whether the process has been carried out correctly in all respects, Rytkönen states.
