Tehy collects a thousand wishes from its members – and adds one more

Tehy, the trade union for qualified social care, health care and education professionals, is ready to negotiate on the terms of employment and pay of its members. As part of this negotiation round, Tehy is collecting one thousand wishes from its members to improve working conditions. The campaign will be launched on 7 March 2025, and the 1,000 + 1 wishes collected will be later published for the whole Finland to see.

The professionals of social care, health care and education are doing work that is the cornerstone of our welfare state. The future of Finnish healthcare, social services and early childhood education and care depends on their competence. And yet many of them are struggling with their resources, working conditions and level of pay.

How can we make sure that these top talents can cope with their demanding work, and how can we keep them in their chosen field? How can we improve their working conditions?

Tehy wants to give a voice to those who know the answers to these questions – to Tehy members themselves.

1,000 + 1 wishes for improving work

On 7 March 2025, Tehy will launch a campaign that collects the wishes of Tehy members on improving their work. And Tehy will also add one more wish: a pay that reflects the demanding nature of the field.

You can submit your wish through Tehy’s website 7–21 March. The wishes are collected and published so that the decision-makers, the media and the entire Finland can see what the professionals of social care, health care and education would need in order to continue their work.

Why is this important?

Finland has the world's best social welfare, healthcare and education sector professionals. Their work is irreplaceable, and yet they are working under the constant pressures of cost savings and insufficient staffing. The problems in the field will not disappear on their own – and if actions are not taken to solve these problems, the consequences will become visible the daily life of every Finn.

Tehy’s goal is to negotiate on behalf of its members to secure working conditions that reflect the value of their work. The negotiations this spring will not only be about the numbers, but rather about the people, their wishes and about how their work could be improved, says Tehy Chairperson Millariikka Rytkönen.

Tehy members can submit their wishes through this form. Filling in the form requires you to sign in.
