The number of candidates for the Tehy Council election has been confirmed at 413. The majority of the candidates are members of seven different electoral coalitions, with four candidates not being members of any electoral coalition. Student members may also stand as candidates in the council elections, and this time the confirmed candidates include five students. The electoral district comprises the entire country.
The 83 Council members are the most important decision-makers in Tehy. The Council decides on Tehy’s operations, finances and objectives. As the highest decision-making body, the Council approves collective agreements, decides on possible industrial actions, issues comments on social issues and spreads Tehy’s message to workplaces.
The Council election takes place online between 17 and 31 March. Eligible voters include all members of Tehy’s local branches who joined Tehy by the end of January this year. Student members of Tehy are also eligible to vote in the election. The election result will be published on 2 April 2025.
The Council also elects the Tehy president, deputy chairpersons and the board of directors as well as the council president and deputy chairpersons at the organisational meeting to be held on 4–5 June 2025.
Founded in 1982, Tehy is Finland's largest trade union for qualified social care, health care and education professionals and students. Tehy members include nurses, midwives, childminders, dental nurses, bioanalysts, physiotherapists, paramedics, mental health nurses, practical nurses and chiropodists, among others.
